2 Months

I can't believe J is two months old already! Granted, she's not a normal two month old, but still. How time flies.

We had her two month check up this past Monday. Here are her stats:

Weight: 7lbs 8oz, 35%
Height: 19.5", 21%
Head Circumfrence: 58%

So basically, she's little. ;-)

She doesn't do much at this point. She eat, sleeps and poops. Oh, and cries. Boy, does she have that down pat! I have no idea what happened to my good natured child, but this last week has put me through the ringer. She screams bloody murder unless she is either being held or her binky is in her mouth. Unfortunately, she can't keep that dang thing in yet so she screams about every ten minutes. It's just awesome. My new best friend is this:

That way I can hold her and still have my hands free to clean the house or do whatever. It's amazing! Best thing is that it positions her just right so that the binky never falls out. Hallelujah!

She is eating between 3.5 to 4oz every four hours now. At night she goes a bit longer in between one feeding, about 5 to 5.5 hours. I have been pumping this whole time and feeding her with a bottle. My milk production has drastically dropped since she's been home. I am devastated about it, but I will soon be switching her to formula only and will stop pumping. It's just not worth it. We are doing every other feeding right now, since I still have some frozen and stored, but once that's out then she'll be formula only. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped. I have been really stressed and bummed out about it for the last few weeks but am now resigned. Nothing else about her arrival on this earth has gone right, so why should this? *sighs*

Really, I couldn't be happier with her progression. I don't really think about it until I'm around other moms that have babies the same age as her. I had the hardest time when she first came home until I went to her last doctor's appointment. I have never known anyone that has had a preemie and therefore have no experience on how to be a mom to one. I didn't know how to treat her, if I should be trying to put her on a schedule, if she was growing adequately for being a preemie and things like that. Thankfully her pediatrician is awesome and he really comforted me and told me that I was doing all the right things. Mentally, this last week has been the best for me since she's been home. I can only do the best I can, and thankfully she won't remember how much I floundered at the beginning of her life. We both love her to pieces, and she is seriously the cutest baby girl I've ever seen!

There is NOTHING wrong with giving her formula! I had breast fed my first one, so I assumed my second one would be a piece of cake. Wrong! He wanted nothing to do with breastfeeding. And you know what? He was totally OK. : ) You're doing a great job!

Ok, my baby was BORN a pound and a half bigger than that! What a teeny little thing you have! But she is on the charts, that's awesome!

About breastfeeding, it wasn't even an option for me not to breastfeed Arden. I was so ready and committed and prepared. And I still couldn't do it. It is HARD and emotional and confusing and painful. Although I will try again with my next one, I have learned that it is ok to cut yourself some slack. So cut yourself some!! You are doing a great job and I know how much of a rollercoaster it is. All they really need is food, shelter and LOVE!

I will say if you want to try and keep breastfeeding- a few ideas. I can't pump and keep my milk up. For some reason I have to have her feed from me to keep my milk up. The pump doesn't stimulate the milk. Don't know why? Also, if she has a hard time latching on because she was premie, my sister in law used the nipple shield to help. Just some thoughts if you want to breastfeed. All my kids were so different and it was not easy for me with any of them!

Good luck!
