Baby Girl's Room: The Fabric

We don't have a name for our daughter yet. We have a few names we like, but don't know if they're "the one". I actually think we'll have to wait and see her before we can officially decide. I thought about referring to her as Our Nameless Daughter... but that sounds pathetic and like she's unloved. So, she'll just be Baby Girl Pete.

A few weeks ago Mom and I went shopping for fabric for Baby Girl's room. We live in an apartment, so we can't get too crazy on the decorating, but I still wanted the things that we can change to be unique for her. I originally thought I was going to go with black, pink and green and tried to look for fabric that I liked with those colors. As soon as I saw this fabric, I knew I had to have it:

I'm not normally a girly girl, but I LOVED the fabric that's on the left. And then the checked fabric looked so good next to it, and would be a good accent. Love it! We're (and I use the term "we" loosely as pretty much my Mom is going to be doing most of the work. All right, all right.. all of it!) going to make a crib bumper, bed skirt, curtains, and ottoman cover with these two fabrics. Can't wait until it's all done! Mom's waiting on my brother to move out so she can set up her sewing room, so it might be a few months before I have anything to show.

Although, next week while Jared is out of town we're going to set up a drapery station in my front room and we're going to make the curtains for Baby Girls' room, and then Mom wants to make curtains for her room as well. I found out yesterday that she hand sews all of her draperies. Uhhh... not sure if my swollen sausage fingers can fit around a needle to hand sew anything! But I'll give it a try, as making draperies is definitely something I want to learn.

Today though, it's going to be me vs. the machine:

Who knew that one little machine could strike fear in the hearts of so many? I'm going to make my apron today... wish me luck!

Love the fabric! I was the same way, not so girly. But when you find out you're having a little girl, all of that goes out the window! From then on, you'll always have an eye out for anything with ruffles!
