SYTYCD

So I hopped online today to find out when the new season of So You Think You Can Dance is going to start. I don't watch much TV, mostly because we are completely incapable of watching a show when it's actually on, and we don't have DVR (what were we thinking?!). But the one show I watch religiously is SYTYCD. They are on their 7th season, and they are making big changes this summer. Here is the link to the article:

And here is the main portion of the article:

America’s favorite summer series, So You Think You Can Dance, returns for its seventh season with some exciting new twists, including 10 finalists competing, only one dancer eliminated per week and the return of dancers from previous seasons.

This year, the competition is the toughest it has ever been as the judges will pick only 10 dancers (five guys and five girls) – from the thousands that auditioned – to compete for the title of America’s Favorite Dancer. During the performance rounds, one finalist will go home weekly. Additionally, the competitors will be partnered each week with a different So You Think You Can Dance All-Star dancer – former SYTYCD finalists who are skilled in various styles of dance, including ballroom, hip-hop, jazz and contemporary. The All-Star Partners will be announced shortly.

I am not sure how I feel about these new developments. I liked having 20 contestants. I think it made the odds of the people trying out a bit better, and really made it worth it. How in the world can they only choose 10 dancers out of the thousands that try out? Also, it seems that in the last few seasons the judges have been mainly choosing contemporary dancers. Does that mean they are going to have a more equal representation of dancers this season instead of mainly contemporary?

I also wonder why they are making the change. The show has seriously good ratings with the old model, why change things now? I guess I revert back to the saying "Why fix it if it ain't broke?" The old way of doing things obviously worked, so why change things up now? Yes, we loved some of the contestants from previous seasons. But the whole beauty of a new season is for the 20 people to fight to find their way into the viewer's hearts. It's huge part of the show. Why give people who have already been on the show more limelight? They've had their time, they didn't win, so give some other people a try.

PLUS, these "All-Stars" are generally older and more experienced. I have a feeling that the contestants are going to struggle dancing with a partner so much more experienced and trained than they are. I just don't see any fun in that.

So overall, I don't think I like the new developments. I guess I'm just going to see how things go when the show starts. I am slightly nervous about it, and am hoping they don't ruin my favorite show!

**Edit: I check back, and they've already announced a few All-Stars. Here's the link:

Not too terribly surprised an who they've chosen, actually.

Okay, so I don't watch SYTYCD, but I did see one dance from Dancing with the Stars. it was Kate's dance, but the main reason I watched it was because of Jimmy Fallon's spoof of it. So funny. You should check it out for a good laugh.

I agree with you! I didn't even really like it when they changed the set last fall season! I'll still watch it...but it sounds a little crazy! We'll have to see how it goes.
