Thanksgiving 2008

Thanksgiving this year was with my family, and here they are! My mom and brothers just recently moved up here to the Salt Lake Valley, so it was nice not to have to travel this year. And yes, that is my goofy husband. I swear this man can't take a serious picture. Anyway, this was Jared's first Thanksgiving with my family and hopefully he wasn't too weirded out. Not that we do anything off the wall, but the first holiday away from the norm is always weird. We spent the day eating, laughing, eating, sharing what we are grateful for about eachother and in our lives and eating!
This was my brother Zach's (on the right) first year to have the manly chore of carving the turkey. Basically he was butchering the turkey, again, and then Jared came to the rescue and showed him what to do. Even though it wasn't the prettiest carved turkey, it was so incredibly good! Just goes to show that looks don't matter.

This is our Thanksgiving food in all it's glory.Yum!
We spent Thanksgiving Day with my family, and then that night we met up with Jared's mom and sister and the girls went to see Twilight. Overall, I really liked the movie! Edward was a better actor in some scenes than others, the special effects could have been better but it was a cute love story with a twist. I had heard such mix reviews about it that I was hoping that it didn't bomb, but I liked it. The only character that I was really disapointed in was Rosalie who I thought was actually not attractive in the least. She did the attitude really well, but she wasn't drop dead gorgeous like I had pictured in the book. Anyway, the movie was really great and I'd definitely go see it again in theaters and will definitely buy it. So, that was my Thanksgiving! Unfortunately, real life hits again on Monday. Yuck.

GO UTES!!!

Last night we had the privilege of attending the UofU vs. BYU football game. The game was really fun, it was really cold and the Utes won! I guess now that makes them the conference champions and they now go on to play in some big bowl game. Not sure which one, I'm not that up to date on my football trivia. Anyway, the game was really exciting except for the last three minutes of the game when I think BYU just gave up since there was no way they could catch up. The fans were intense! We were sitting in the student section, and there was a group of BYU fans standing somewhat behind us and they were razzed the whole game. The group of guys in front of us were completely drunk, and kept putting more alcohol into their cokes. I felt like telling them, you might as well as give up the pretense of not being drunk and just drink straight from the bottle! A fight almost broke out between another group of guys in front of us towards the end of the game. Anyway, it was almost as exciting watching the people around us as it was watching the game.

This is a picture of us before we got super cold. Next time, I'm definitely going to bring a blanket! It was a fun season, and even though Jared and I are not into football, it was fun to go to the games and support our school.

Christmas Shopping.... Check!!

Yes! That is exactly what it looks like. Thanksgiving hasn't even arrived and we have all of our Christmas gift shopping done and wrapped! I just have to say, it's all Jared's doing. Not only did he participate in the Christmas shopping, he helped decide what to get everyone AND he wrapped every present by himself. And let me tell you, if you can't see it in the picture, he's an amazing wrapper!

Christmas is going to be much more special this year b/c it's our first Christmas together as a married couple. I'm excited to go to the in-laws and participate in the traditions that Jared loves. I have to say, I'm learning a whole new side of him that I never would have guessed. Who knew he was so crazy about Christmas?! Not I!

Okay, on a non-Christmas note, I've listed a few "happenins" in our last week:

1. Jared found out that after this semester, he only has ten credits left to graduate!!! Oh my gosh, I honestly have to say that I can't wait until this particular journey is over. His semester is winding down and he has been swamped with school projects, papers and studying for tests and I'm trying to be as patient as I can for it to be over ;-). Jared is currently spending his saturday morning watching PowerBlock TV, craving for his own car project to do.

2. As for me, my day is pretty much the same everday. I wake up, I go to work, I come home, I make dinner and then we veg on the couch to prepare ourselves for the next day! We did get a chance to babysit our so very cute niece (and our only niece too, for that matter) on Wed night and I love doing that! She is so big and growing so much, it's exciting for me to live close to see the progress. We also went down to Utah county last night to hang out with our close friends and our home away from home. I love the Hayden's and their home! We had a great time catching up and visiting.

Well, that's about it. Now you have all experienced a week in the life of Jared and Cait!

Happy Veteran's Day!!

I can't tell you how awesome it is to have my very own veteran. I know that may sound weird, but I am EXTREMELY proud of Jared and the sacrifice that he made to serve his country for year over in Iraq. We were only married for four months before Jared left, and let me tell you.. it was hard! I was pretty much a wreck for the first three months, and he hadn't even left the states yet. He spent 9 months in Iraq serving at Camp Bucca guarding the most dangerous terrorists. The mission was pretty boring, Iraq was pretty hot.. but when all is said and done, Jared has his combat patch and I am a proud army wife. I am also extremely grateful for the other men and women who respond to the call of duty and leave their families, friends and homes to protect our nation. That includes past and present veterans! I love this country and all that it stands for.

Well, I thought we'd join the crowd and have a blog to keep in touch with family and friends. Trust me, it will look better soon...
